Admittance criteria for navigation

in the Northern Sea Route water area according to the vessels ice class

 

1.    For vessels without ice reinforcement and for vesssels with class Ice1 – Ice3 during navigation in the period July to 15th November1

1. Vessels without ice reinforcement and vessels with class Ice1 – Ice3are not allowed to navigate in the Northern Sea Route water area in the periods from 16th November to 31st December and from January to June.
2. Oil tankers, gas carries, chemical tankers without ice reinforcement and with gross tonnage 10 000 and more are only allowed to navigate in the Northern Sea Route water area on open water in the period from July to 15th November with icebreaker support.
3. Vessels without ice reinforcement are only allowed to independently navigate in the Northern Sea Route water area on open water.

 

2.    For vessels class Arc4 – Arc9 during navigation in the period July to October

1. Icebreakers with ice reinforcement class Icebreaker9 are not restricted in independent navigation in the Northern Sea Route water area.                 
2. Icebreakers with ice reinforcement class Icebreaker6 – Icebreaker8 are allowed to navigate independently during the navigation period July to November.

Notation description of Appendix 2:«IN» –independent navigation;
«IS» –with icebreaker support;
«S» – severe ice conditions according to the Rosgidromet official information;
«M» – moderate ice conditions according to the Rosgidromet official information;
«L» – easy ice conditions according to the Rosgidromet official information;
«+» – navigation is allowed;
«–» – navigation is not allowed.
