Diesel-electric ship «Vasiliy Golovnin» delivered  2 th. tonnes of cargo to the western sector of the Arctic

Diesel-electric ship “Vasiliy Golovnin” finished a passage to the western sector of the Arctic and delivered more than 2 th. tonnes of the cargo to Golomyanny Island. Now the ship goes to Arkhangelsk port, reported transportation group FESCO to TASS.

“During the passage, the vessel delivered 2 176 t of cargo to Golomyanny Island of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago: building materials, plant and equipment. Loading was done in Arkhangelsk port on 14th of May, 2016 and unloading - on the 1st of June, 2016 on Golomyanny Island”, said in the report.

The passage from ice floe edge to the archipelago was done in two steps with assistance of Rosatomflot icebreakers Vaygach and Yamal. The cargo was unloaded on fast ice and undeveloped shore.

Now “Vasiliy Golovnin” is on the way to the port of Arkhangelsk escorted with Yamal icebreaker. It is planned to reach the port on the 9th of June.
